SCHOOL DAYS

Growing up in this day and age,
With free expression all the rage,
Our young ones learn when starting
That reading is fun
For every child it’s essential
To release their full potential
And teachers always do their best
To stimulate their interest.
When years of schooldays end at last
With all examinations passed,
Will the children reminisce
And say, Our schooldays we will miss
And as the final day arrives,
They were the best days of our lives

DEPRESSION IN TODAY'S LIFE

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders. In today's society, depression is mostly rising among teens and youth. It is currently occurring in our society because of the societal judgment or pressure and work /home environment which leads to sadness, fatigue, lack of concentration, insomnia, overthinking, and also suicidal thoughts. Depression makes you feel lonely and you also start losing control over your emotions. In today's generation, the youth are not able to convey their feelings due to societal judgment. The youth of our generation need to believe in themselves and speak for themselves because they are the leaders of future India.

SHOULD MENTAL HEALTH BE GIVEN IMPORTANCE AS MUCH AS PHYSICAL HEALTH?

In 2019 10.4 % out of 1 lakh, people committed suicide. In 2020 11.3 % out of 1 lakh, people committed suicide. India recorded 153,052 suicide cases on an average of 418 days. Tamil Nadu recorded 22.8 % out of 1 lakh suicide cases. One million people commit suicide each year. More number of suicide cases occur between the age group of 15 -44.

Why do you think suicides take place? Why in such a large numbers? Why do suicides increase day by day?

IT companies exploit people's mental and physical health by overworking them. In many families, people who are depressed are not given enough time to heal. The major factor for suicide is mental illness. Mental health is not given importance as much as physical health.

Mental and physical health are equally important components of overall well-being. A human being needs a healthy mind and body to lead a happy and healthy life. Physical fitness helps our body to stay strong. When we are mentally healthy we enjoy our life and the environment around us. We can be creative, learn, try new things and take risks.

Mental and physical health are both interconnected. When you are physically not well it affects your mental health. Depression increases the risk of many types of physical health conditions like diabetes, heart diseases, and stroke. When we are mentally ill even if we are physically healthy we won't appreciate it. We won't be able to see the beauty of life. Mental health includes our emotions and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It determines how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices and decisions. Sometimes mental illness is terrifying because you feel like you have lost control of your mind and nothing makes sense. It's like watching yourself on autopilot mode and having little to no control.

When we feel we are not mentally stable, we shouldn't be afraid of coming out and seeking help. We shouldn't be afraid of people's judgment. Because people will keep on judging but in the end, we will be the ones who failed to explore the beauty of life. Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and the stigma associated with it should be removed. Remember that your mental health is a priority, your inner peace is essential and your self-care is a necessity. People tell physical health is more important yet in a few companies people are not given enough leaves for physical health. We live in a society where essentials are ignored. It's high time we change this situation by spreading awareness on mental health.

I believe that one day our society, our world will change. The future depends on what you do today, so spread awareness and "Be the Change."

THE BEAUTIFUL BLESSINGS OF LIFE

So which of the favours of your Lord would you deny?
[Surah Ar-Rahman]

This Surah teaches us to become aware, to open our eyes and our hearts, and see all the bounties that Allah has bestowed on us. It becomes clear that we cannot deny the favours of Allah. If we look around, we’ll notice we have many things to be grateful for. Do ponder, yet you'll never be able to count them all.

The air we breathe is for free and we must be grateful for that. Health, is a precious blessing of Allah. We can know its value when we see the sick. To know about the value of our parents, ask the orphans, about what they are missing. Subhaan Allah! COUNTLESS BLESSINGS WE ARE BLESSED WITH. Yet we are dissatisfied, careless, and thankless.

Allah says in Surah Ibrahim [translation]: And He has granted you all that you asked Him for. If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Indeed, humankind is truly unjust and ungrateful. [14: 34]

So as good Muslims, we must show gratitude towards our Lord, not just by lip service, rather by worship. So, we Muslims must be mindful of our duty towards our Rabb. This way we show our gratitude to Allah!

A CHANGE FROM WITHIN

A CHANGE means the process of doing something than the usual one. It may be a positive or a negative change. Change cannot be brought about by anyone. They may just motivate us but we have to bring it within ourselves with our heart.

Changing oneself to prove that you are a better human being in this world is just not enough. Change to become better Muslims. Allah loves the one who does mistakes and repents truly. Outward change comes after we change from within.

Our intention matters! Once we intend to bring Taqwa and follow the Prophet’s Sunnah correctly, truly Allah will help us to change from within us.

May Allah reward us for our intentions to bring a change within ourselves...SUBHAN ALLAH!

On the authority of Abu Sa`eed Al Khudri [R.A.] who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah say: Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart - and that is the weakest of Faith.

[Muslim]

Thus, there is nothing permanent except the change from within.
